Market Theatre announces new appointment

Donna Elisabeth McLaggan will join the Market Theatre Foundation team as Assistant Producer from 15 May 2017.

She takes up the position after her several stints working as a production manager on projects in radio, television and theatre. Her most recent position was Arts Co-ordinator at the Playhouse Theatre in Durban.

She will bring her experience, knowledge and skills to the Market Theatre’s Producing Department which is responsible for the preparation and oversight of production budgets as well as the coordination and dissemination of production information to internal departments at the Market Theatre. The Producing Department also administrates all contractual matters pertaining to directors, designers, production crew and casts.

“I’m really excited to be joining a dynamic team at the Market Theatre Foundation and to have the opportunity, under great leadership, to be a part of a team that will continue to bring iconic productions to the stages of the Market Theatre,” said Donna McLaggan as she anticipates her relocation to Johannesburg.

Donna will be working closely and collectively with Zodwa Shongwe, the Market Theatre’s producer who has transitioned to this position since the Windybrow Arts Centre’s merger with the Market Theatre three years ago.

“Donna is going to play a critical part in our team. We are delighted to find a person who matches identically and beyond the skills that we were looking for. The Market Theatre Foundation looks forward to supporting her and helping her settle in her new position,” said Zodwa Shongwe the Market Theatre Producer.

Donna’s first responsibilities when she settles in at the Market Theatre will be to take on much of the co-ordinating responsibilities for the inaugural Arts Incubator Trade Fair that the Market Theatre will host in June. The Trade Fair will for the first time bring together projects from Artscape, Playhouse Theatre, State Theatre and PACOFS in a weeklong programme to reflect and review how these Department of Arts & Culture-funded projects can optimise the opportunities that they create for emerging artists.
