Business and Arts South Africa is pleased to introduce its latest member, Labs.fm, a data-driven products and services company operating within the music industry.
With their roots in the radio industry, the company now provides music products and services for record labels, streaming services, music labels, concert promoters and brands.
“Earlier this year we noticed an appetite for South African chart data. Media monitoring isn’t our core focus, but we measure thousands of data points and decided to make these charts available to the public as our as our way of giving back to the industry,” comments Labs.fm founder, Richard Oakley.
“There is no official South African chart, and independent musicians or aspiring young artists have no access to the kinds of tools that record labels have. Previously, the only way to access a South African airplay chart was to pay one of the media monitoring companies. Labs.fm now makes this data available for everyone because all artists should have a full view of what South Africa is listening to,” adds Head of Product Development, Wendy Verwey Bekker.
Such data has the potential to increase awareness of local music and artists, help musicians and young companies grow, and enhance marketing strategies through music. Labs.fm currently publishes the South African Airplay, Apple Music, Deezer, iTunes, Shazam and YouTube charts on a weekly basis, with a Spotify Chart coming soon. Members of the public can subscribe to receive the charts on email at no charge, or access them online at http://Labs.fm/charts/south-africa
