The FNB Dance Umbrella will present a Dance Writers Workshop, which will be run by the respected arts journalist Adrienne Sichel.

Aside from twenty programmes which will include contemporary dance, hip hop, performance art and Afro-fusion, the FNB Dance Umbrella will present two series of workshops facilitated by international teachers from Britain and the US; Face-to-Face interviews with choreographers, conducted from Tuesdays to Fridays during lunch hours at the Market Theatre Newtown and for the first time, a Dance Writers Workshop, which will be presented by the respected arts journalist Adrienne Sichel.

The Dance Writers workshop will take place from February 24 - 26 at the Dance Space in Newtown. Sichel will take the six participants through a process of how to write for dance. This will include attending rehearsals, how to conduct interviews, writing about previews and reviews, and generally getting to grips with the tools needed to write for and about Dance.

Following the workshop the participants, with Sichel, will attend selected FNB Dance Umbrella rehearsals and performances and put into practice what they have learned at the workshop. The results of this process will be published in a special edition, pull-out, FNB Dance Umbrella newspaper, produced by The Citizen newspaper in association with the Goethe-Institut-Johannesburg and Dance Forum.

The selected participants are Rahiem Whisgary, Ndu Mismanga and Lebo Ramafathula, all Wits graduates, Siyabonga Mposula UJ graduate and The Citizen writer Sibusiso Mkwanazi. In addition the Goethe Institut-South Africa will be bringing in one person from Ethiopia to also participate in the workshop.
