The state of the arts and the black arts of the state: Mike van Graan
Mike van Graan recently delivered a powerful statement addressing both the recent furore surrounding the Minister of Arts and Culture’s response to the Innovative Women in the Arts exhibition at Constitution Hill, as well as a variety of more general issues surrounding the current position of the arts in South Africa. The address was made at the Time of the Writer festival in Durban, organised by the Centre for the Creative Arts at the University of Kwazulu-Natal. In the interest of promoting debate and action on the issues addressed by van Graan, VANSA has reproduced the full text of this important statement.

Future Generation Art Prize
The Future Generation Art Prize is a world-wide art prize of 100,000 USD open to all artists up to the age of 35.
