Is this an opportunity of a lifetime? A fully financed three month Creative Residency is offered in the UK. We invite you to attend a reception and presentation by the UK co-ordinator.
Date: Tuesday 23rd March 2010
Time: 4-6:30pm
Place: Sophiatown Heritage and Cultural Centre, corner Edward and Toby Streets, Sophiatown.
We are seeking applications from candidates:
• An artist from any discipline within the Arts - excluding theatre, dance and creative writing. For example Fine Art, Sculpture, Textiles, Costume, Metal work, Design, New Media Technologies, Graphics, Jewellery Making, Advertising, Music, Sound, Stone work, Leatherwork, Conservation, Wood work.
• An artist who is mid-career, who has been working at least 5 years.
• The successful candidate would be able to provide references and evidence of an international outlook, investigative skills and progressive thinking; and of making relationships within and outside the field of their practice.
Finance covers:
• All travel costs to and from South Africa and in the UK
• All visas and insurances
• Accommodation
• Artist Materials
• Generous living allowance.

1. From CBD, North and East of Johannesburg
• From Empire Road, head towards University of Johannesburg, on Kingsway.
• Pass Wits University on left. Proceed along Empire.
• At the T-junction where the SABC in front of you – turn right.
• Pass through three intersections with University of Johannesburg on the left hand side.
• At the next robot (Engen garage diagonally opposite), turn right into Lewes. Continue over the Westdene Dam.
• Keep on Lewes ( which becomes Thornton and then becomes Edward )
• At the second intersection, turn left into Toby. Venue is immediately on your right hand side – white wall on corner Edward and Toby. Park here.
2. From the west (traveling towards the Joburg CBD):
• Ondekkers Road becomes Main Road
• Pass Sophiatown Police Station on the right
• Pass Metro Police headquarters on left
• After robots near the Metro Police building, slow down and look for a left turning into TOBY Street. Sign says ‘Trevor Huddleston Centre’
• Drive all the way up Toby Street, before the robot intersection with Edward street, park here.
• Venue is on your left hand side , at the intersection.
• A white wall on corner Edward and Toby
