2010 sees Business and Arts South Africa recommit its energies to the many media partnerships that are already in place, whilst also looking for new opportunities. These media partnerships are just one of the benefits of being a Business and Arts South Africa member – and also offer South African arts aficiandos an easy way of staying in touch with what’s going on in the South African and global arts scene. The Business of the Arts

Brought to you by Business and Arts South Africa and broadcast on Summit TV, the Business of the Arts has started 2010 in fine style. Among the topics during January and February was a look M-Net’s cost-saving approach to promoting the arts and entertainment sector, with a focus on the pantomime Pinocchio. Also in the Business of the Arts spotlight was a piece arts and culture museum, the Origins Centre that touched on its relationship with the giant mining company, Anglo American. The Johannesburg International Mozart Festival at the Linder Auditorium and its relationship with Rand Merchant Bank was another feature, along with a look at how PC Training and Business College, as an educational sponsor, went out of its way to become part of the classical Shakespearean play – Othello. Visual arts were also on the agenda with The Business of Arts visiting the Standard Bank Gallery’s exhibition of one of South Africa's most talented artists, Ephraim Ngatane.

Business and Arts South Africa board member, Richard Cock, has focused on music, theatre and design during his recent shows. Among those spotlighted include Florian Uhlig of the Johannesburg International Mozart Festival, Laura Foot talking about the Golden Arrow’s project with the Baxter Theatre, Rolf Beck of the Schleswig-Holstein Festival, Rand Merchant Bank’s Paul Rodgers on their support of the Mozart Festival and ABSA’s Angie Burton on the bank’s sponsorship of the upcoming Design Indaba.

BASA Today with Zingi Mkefa on Sundays from 11h00 - 12h00 on 1485 am

You can catch Radio Today on 1485 AM in the greater Johannesburg region as well as nationally and in the SADC Sub-Region on DStv Audio Channel 169.

Presenter Zingi Mkefa took a look at the 22nd annual First National Bank Dance Umbrella, the biggest festival for contemporary dance on the African continent as well as the upcoming theatre piece, Bosman and Mynhardt: A Tribute, through a profile on actor Patrick Mynhardt. Other stories covered by Zingi were interviews with Alan Committie and theatre director Paul Grootboom as well as Sello Maake ka-Ncube.

BASA Newsflash with Michael Coulson on Fridays from 17h45 to 18h00 on 1485 am

Michael Coulson has had a busy few months interviewing, amongst many others, Jeanetta Blignaut, Head of COEO, about Spier's new wine and the Creative BLOC; Aryn Guiney and Sue Pam Grant about the exhibition at Narina Trogon; Sophia Schutte, Telkom's Art Curator; Gordon Massie, Director of Artinsure and Cecile Ludolf, ABSA's Visual Arts Curator.

BASA Create on SAfm

Business and Arts South Africa members profiled over January and February in this midday slot on SAfm include Annabelle Schreuder, Group Marketing Manager of Spier Holdings who was interviewed on the Infecting The City 2010 project as well as Cecile Loedolff, ABSA's art curator who chatted about the ABSA L'Atelier competition. Other arts projects that came under the BASA Create spotlight include Songs of Migration, a musical featuring Hugh Masekela and Sibongile Khumalo, Midem 2010 (supported by the Department of Arts and Culture), the FNB Dance Umbrella, a tribute to Jackson Hlungwani as well as Denis Brutus and many others.
