Alice’s Very Important Date is a few sleeps away

Event Date: June 6 – August 7

In a few days’ time – this Monday June 6, to be exact – the latest production of The People’s Theatre will be bursting onto the People’s Theatre stage at the Joburg Theatre complex in Braamfontein. The prolific team at PT keep coming up with new productions that fire children’s imaginations, and this retelling of the classic tale, complete with colourful costumes and exciting sets, promises to maintain the high standards of this firmly established theatrical outfit.

“The rehearsals were the usual blend of hard work, good fun and camaraderie,” enthuses co-director Keith Smith, “And it’s so gratifying to see everything click into place. Our cast is rearing to go now, and can’t wait for the first audiences to start coming in next week!”

Adds co-director Jill Girard: “Our shows are always so interactive in nature that it’s almost as if the cast is waiting for the final cast members – the audience – to turn up and complete the experience.”

Productions at The People’s Theatre have been lauded by reviewers, teachers and parents alike – not only for keeping classic fairy tales alive in the minds of upcoming generations, but for providing family-friendly live theatre that isn’t only entertaining, but contains educational and moral messages.

Unlike television, which is not as interactive a medium as live theatre, the productions mounted by The People’s Theatre give children the opportunity to actively engage with the stories and the characters that inhabit them, making them feel as if they’ve ‘lived’ the story, rather than merely ‘seen’ it.

From this Monday, your children can tumble down the rabbit hole with Alice, and share her “curiouser and curiouser” experiences in that topsy-turvy land of wonder.
